watercolors

“You’ll know when it’s time.” was the answer I got, when I asked how one can throw out or give away her dead child’s belongings. So much of Sarah’s stuff with so little of her left in them, yet hard to let go. Things. I have dealt with too many people’s things, let alone my own daughter’s.

It was time for these well worn watercolors. It just felt like it was time. If I could, I would keep every dustbunny, every scrap of paper, if there were even an inkling of a chance of reconstructing them back into who she was.

But they will always just be pieces: remnants of a soul as vibrant as the paint she left behind.
