Visit the Facebook group for lots of Truda Campers, sharing and information.
that would be fantastic- let me know
Let me know also, I am in touch with a few ex-Truda ladies,
HELLO!!!
AM I EVER A CAMP TRUDA ALUM! I WENT TO TRUDA FROM THE TIME I WAS 8 YEARS OLD (1936) UNTIL I WAS 16.
CAMP TRUDA WAS THE FIRST AND FOREMOST INFLUENCE ON MY LIFE. I LOVED IT AND HAVE SO MANY MEMORIES WHICH WOULD PROBABLY SOUND “FUNNY” TODAY.
TWO OF OUR DAUGHTERS ALSO WENT TO TRUDA AND MY HUSBAND AND I WENT BACK AS CAMP DOCTOR MANY YEARS LATER WHEN THE GIRSL WERE OF CAMP AGE.
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NAME OF THE VACATION HOME (?) DEVELOPMENT THAT IS BUILT ON THE TRUDA CAMPUS??
Hi Eunice,
I never went to Truda, but my Mother did and her time overlaps yours. She was in Lodge in 1940 and sent wonderful newsy typed letters home to her parents. She also went back in 1942 to run the Camp store. Now she is a married women sending great typed letters to my father who is heading off to boot camp. I feel like I was there giving Ma trouble, raiding the kitchen, swimming off the rock, driving into Naples to the Howard Johnson’s. I also have a few pictures. I have scanned a lot of it and would love to share it with someone who might appreciate it and might even remember my mother.
Bill,
Ma and Pa Thorner were my great-grandparents! I grew up on stories of Truda and I would LOVE anything you have from when the Thorners owned it. Thank you!!
My contact info is below – I am going to visit in October and with my mom and my son – it would be great to share the stories with them as we go.
Dawn (Thorner Gluckmann) Ovrom
Hi Dawn,
So excited to hear from you. Your Great Grandmother was a character in the “book” of my Mothers life. I have two years of typed letters from Truda, yes my Mother brought a typewriter to Camp. After all she was the editor of the Camp newspaper. Your email was not available. Will try to reach out to you anyway.
MESSAGE CONTINUED;
WE ARE GOING TO MAINE NEXT WEEK AND WOULD LOVE TO VISIT OXFORD AND CASCO. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS IS A GATED COMMUNITY? OR CAN YHOU JUST DRIVE IN?
Hi,
I was in White Plains, NY last month and I began thinking about past summers at Camp Truda.
I did a google search and came upon this site.
Susan, we were in Club together. And, also Maxine and Diane.
Physs, I remember seeing you back in the 70’s in an apartment building in Allston, MA where my brother lived at the time!
Hello, Beth. We were together, and Diane also!
Hi Max (assuming you come back to this site seven years later!) And Phyllis Orlins, who found me a few years ago. We were in on the Egyptian-themed decorations. Our beloved former counselor, Connie Wright, has become a minister. I live in Maryland, near DC.
You all need to go check out the Camp Truda Facebook site. You will see all the memories and read all the stories. Everyone that went there shared the same amazing memories that marked their life it seems forever! Check it out!
What was your favorite lunch and breakfast at camp in the late 50’s and early 60’s? doing a themed camp party and need help. Went to Truda in 1961. Judy Helf fishman
I started in 1936!!! at the tender age of 8 with my didey doll as a camper at Truda and ended in Club bunk at the age of 16!!!! How’s that for maybe beating all known records at Truda.? It was the most meaningful time of my life in terms of becoming culture -oriented(music and art) learning basic athletic skills ( not so easy for a klutz), and learning about friendships and relationships. The Thorners from New jersey owned the camp and then the Dibners.
I will be 84 in October and still treasure every moment of my experience at Truda.
Oh!! I didn’t mention that when the Dibners arrived, I had 2 daughters of camper age and one 5year old. My husband , a Pediatrician , and all the girls spent 2 summers at Truda. My husband, 5 year old and I were in the “doctor’s cabin” which just happened to be the first cabin I was in at the age of 8.,
Who else goes back as far and who wants to hear wonderful memories?
Eunice Hertzmark Grossman, Durham, NC
Do any of you remember Ma Thorner? It was an honor to be invited to her house and you would have to dress in Yellow blazer, white shirt and green shorts. Jacci Caplin (first name at camp was June. I later changed it)
